Class reps at Jacques Prévert

At the start of each school year, parents can volunteer to be class representatives (parents délégués de classe).

There are a total of 22 elected parents, who represent the 11 classes of the school. Each class has a class rep', and a deputy class rep’. Despite the different name (required for administrative reasons), the two class reps work together and support each other throughout the school year. They also ask and rely on the occasional help from parents in their class (at school fairs for example).

A ‘class reps coordinator’, associated with the School and the Parents' Association (APEEF), leads and supports the class representatives; they manage, plan, and write the important communications. These communications then get sent to the class reps, who then distribute them to their individual classes.

Conseil d’Ecole

The Conseil d’École meets three times a year and brings together, according to the guidance of the French Ministry of National Education:

  • one parent representative per class

  • teachers

  • one or more members of the School Board

  • the headmistress.

The main responsibilities of the Conseil d’École are to:

  • Adopt the school’s rules and policies.

  • Discuss questions relating to the school’s operation and life such as:

    • The school’s multi-year project

    • Educational structures

    • The school’s timetable and calendar

    • Pupil’s Health & Safety

    • Safeguarding at school

Why be a class rep

Being a class rep is a great way to get involved in school life and to be an active member of our community. It is a generous role that benefits the whole school: children, parents, teachers and school's staff. This also allows you to have regular interaction with your child's class and get to know the other parents and the teacher(s) in your child’s class.

New parents are very welcome to join! We encourage it as it helps them to be part of the Jacques Prévert community.

What do you do as a class rep?

  • You represent the parents of your child's class. You collect the feedback from the teacher(s) and other parents and represent the class at the Conseil d’École each term.

  • You participate in class rep meetings 3-4 times a year, in order to share your ideas and suggestions, and to be kept informed about the various projects of the school and the Parents' Association (APEEF).

  • You communicate the school rules to parents, if necessary (WhatsApp groups rules, anti-bullying, etc.).

  • You support the teacher(s) in organising activities (for example finding accompanying parents for school outings).

  • You act as a link between the parents and the parents' association: relaying information, encouraging parents' involvement, coordinating volunteers for the events organised by the APEEF (Christmas market, summer fair, cake sales, etc.)

  • You organise collections for Christmas presents and end-of-year presents for the teacher(s) and school staff.

Being a class rep is a great way to get involved in the school's life and be an active member for the benefit of all children and teachers while having particular contact with your child's class.
